Root Canal West Tampa

  • ROOT CANAL WEST TAMPA

The term root canal is often referred to as a non-pleasurable dental experience. In all actuality, it is the pain of the infection and not the procedure itself is behind all the negativity. Root canal therapy is a procedure performed by your dentist to save a tooth that is infected. The infected tooth must be treated properly or you run the risk of losing the tooth. If infection is left too long and spreads beyond the tooth, it can become fatal! It is imperative to seek dental care if you suspect your tooth is infected. Westchase Premier Dental provides root canal therapy at our West Tampa location.

    Root Canal Procedure

There is a layer underneath the enamel that surrounds the pulp. The pulp is the softer layer underneath that houses a collection of blood vessels and the nerve of the tooth. Inflammation of the pulp can occur due dental problems such as to tooth decay, chipped or broken, or periodontal disease. Pulp inflammation can lead to an abscess and you will need to have a root canal procedure for treatment. Root Canal procedures are typically one to two visits.

The Procedure: Your dentist will remove the infected pulp and clean the inside of the tooth out. The hollowed pulp is then filled and sealed with a rubber-like material. Your tooth is then restored using a crown or filling for protection. Following root canal therapy, your tooth will last just as long as your other teeth with proper dental care and maintenance. Visit Colgate.com for more details about the procedure with illustrations.
